Resilient farming, floods, small-marginal-woman farmers

The Resilient Farming for Small and Marginal Farmers project is being implemented across 18 flood-affected villages in Campierganj block, Gorakhpur, with the support of Azim Premji Foundation. Focused on vulnerable small, marginal, and women farmers, the initiative promotes climate-resilient, low-input agriculture tailored to the ecological challenges of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project aims to improve livelihoods, strengthen local institutions, and embed resilience strategies into village-level planning and governance systems like the Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP).

Through farm-based interventions and community engagement, the project supports sustainable agriculture using climate-resilient seeds, bio-manure, and eco-friendly pest management. Farmers are mobilized into groups and collectives, trained through Farmer Field Schools, and linked to Agro Service Centres and Farmer Producer Organizations. Digital tools and agro-advisory services provide real-time weather updates and farming tips. Women farmers are a key focus—empowered through drudgery-reduction tools, training, and financial linkages. Extension labs and local institutions further anchor learning and service delivery at the village level.

Impacting Lives, Building Climate Resilience

By 2027, the project envisions a 40% increase in agriculture-based income for 3,100 households. It also targets enhanced water availability through rainwater harvesting in five Gram Panchayats, while promoting soil fertility and long-term ecological balance. With strong linkages to government schemes and locally-led solutions, the initiative is shaping a scalable model of resilient, inclusive, and sustainable farming. At its core, the project empowers rural communities to adapt, thrive, and lead their own journey towards climate resilience and economic self-reliance.
