Global Environmental Change and Food Systems (Supported by APN)
This project is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary research work to understand the interaction between food systems (as they underpin food security) and global environmental change to support the development of interventions to enhance the adaptive capacity of food systems in the face of current and future change, the project has addressed the Basin Focal Project (BFP) concern of identifying the effects on food systems and associated water use in basins of modifications in water availability arising from plausible environmental and socio-economic changes.
The objectives of the project are –
To promote Asia Pacific Network (APN) region cooperation to address GEC and food security through integrated collaborative research closely linked to ESSP-GECAFS –
- To access how GEC-induced changes in water availability and access will affect food systems in five districts across the Indo-Gangetic plain.
- to develop policy relevant decisions support systems to increase awareness of GEC/ Food security issues and to help analyze socio-economic and environmental consequences of given adaptation options.
A report on the characterization of food system in Vaishali (Bihar) has been compiled.
