Voluntary Resource Organization Working Towards Sustainable Livelihood of Small, Marginal, Landless & Women Farmers

 

1st National Media Fellowship Programme

Gorakhpur Environmental Action Group has launched a national media fellowship programme for young journalists from the year 2008. The fellowships would allow them to take time from their routine beats to research and publish on our organizational agenda.

The fellowships support pursuit of in-depth, creative field research on developmental concerns and writing about them with adequate evidences qualitative and quantitative to impact the public policy and the domain of social consciousness. 

Two fellowships will be awarded for this year to print journalists from print media.

Journalists from small and regional language publication and non-metro areas are encouraged to apply. Women journalists are particularly welcomed. Application must have demonstrated commitment to the development concerns of the privileged in society. 

OBJECTIVES

  • To create greater awareness in the media about local and national level developmental priorities.

  •  To strengthen public opinion regarding the need of positive measures to support people centered development.

  •  To facilitate a process of sensitization on development issues amongst media professionals.

  • To promote effective communication that draws attention to development concerns and

  • To facilitate a more informed development policy dialogue through print media.

 THEME- Sustainable Agricultural Livelihoods & Climate Change.

 DURATION- Six months (spread over a year if necessary)

 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • The fellowships are open to the journalists working in any of the regional and national dailies and associated media. Freelancers frequently contributing to the press are encouraged to apply.

  • Early to mid career status with minimum 3 to 5 years of professional experience. Upper age limit is 40 years.

  • The candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to career in journalism and should have (covered the issues in past) significant experience of writing on the same.

  • This fellowship can not be held simultaneously with any other fellowship.

NATIONAL MEDIA FELLOWSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE- Selection of application and final approval of fellowship will be decided by a committee constituted by the awarder (GEAG).
